Have some fun creating a piece of music in response to ONE of the images below.
Guitar Strumming Notation
Guitar strumming patterns are used to add variety to your chord progressions. So far we have been just strumming DOWN with the beat, however, we can also use an UP strum in between the beats.
We use notation for this that originates in violin music(showing the up and down bowing) as well as more modern versions that use arrows or letters to show the desired strumming.
The DOWN strum tends to be a heavier strum as it hits the low pitch strings first, and the UP strum has a lighter tone colour as it hits the thin high pitch strings first. You can vary this by using a heavy strum in any direction.
Some songs will use a particular strumming pattern that is only part of that song, like a "hook" to make you remember that particular piece.
The song Wonderwall by the band OASIS uses a very recognisable strumming pattern that makes the song almost instantly recognisable. The chords are fairly common, but in combination with the strumming it becomes an original piece of music.

Year 9 Composition activity
Year 9...
So you should have created a melody in www.noteflight.com that is 8 bars long. It needs to end on a D at the end of bar 4, then end on the note G at the end of bar 8.
From there you should have named each note (using the lyrics tool) in CAPITALS.
Today you need to COPY the first 8 bar melody and PASTE it again after (so you have two lots of the 8 bar melody).
THEN... you need to create a NEW 8 bar melody using the notes G A B C D E. It needs to be DIFFERENT from your first 8 Bar idea.... Use different melody notes, different rhythms.
THEN....
Paste your FIRST 8 bars at the end.
YOU NOW SHOULD HAVE 32 BARS OF MUSIC!!!!
